Songs, Dances and Rituals Throughout Asia

Introduction

The music and dance of Asia is as varied as its food and culture. In some respects it’s very similar to what you’d find in Europe or Africa, but there are also plenty of unique musical traditions that are specific to Asia. Even within one country (like Pakistan) there is a lot of variety. However, some songs and dances are common throughout the region:

Songs, Dances and Rituals Throughout Asia

China

Chinese music is very diverse, and varies by region. It has been influenced by the ethnic minorities who have lived in China for thousands of years. Chinese music has also been influenced by other Asian countries, as well as western music.

The instruments used in Chinese music include the erhu (a two-stringed bowed instrument), pipa (lute), sanxian (three-stringed plucked instrument), dizi flute and guzheng zithers

India

Bhangra is a popular dance that originated in the Punjab region of India. The traditional Dholak drum, played by hand and ankle, accompanies bhangra performances at weddings, festivals and other celebrations.

Japan

Japanese music is very diverse. Japanese culture has been influenced by many different cultures, including Chinese and Western. The music of Japan has also been influenced by the seasons, weather and other factors such as festivals or holidays.

The Japanese calendar is based on a twelve-year cycle called the “Chinese zodiac”. The animals that represent each year are: Rat (Mouse), Ox (Bull), Tiger (Lion), Rabbit(Hare), Dragon(Snake), Snake(Horse), Horse(Goat), Monkey(Rooster) Rooster(Dog) Dog(Pig). Each animal has its own unique characteristics which affect the way people think and behave throughout the year!

For example: If you were born in 1976 then your sign would be Ox because there was no Sheep on this particular chart! In addition to this there are many different types of traditional dances performed during certain times throughout history such as Bunraku puppetry performances which date back 400 years ago when they first started using puppets instead actors onstage due to budget constraints at first but later evolved into more elaborate productions involving multiple puppets controlled simultaneously by only one person through strings attached inside them – wowza!

Pakistan

The country’s people enjoy dancing at weddings, festivals and other special events. Some dances are performed publicly while others are done privately with family members or friends.
